The Juniper ACX5096-AC-L2-L3 represents a transformative approach to universal metro routers, bringing operational intelligence from the service provider edge directly to the access network. This advanced network telecommunications equipment simplifies access and aggregation architectures by eliminating unnecessary layers and network overlays, dramatically reducing capex and operational costs for scalable service provider deployments. The platform addresses the shift in metro network architecture where access layers must support rapidly growing mobile, video, and cloud computing applications while maintaining relative simplicity in network operations. Juniper Networks has engineered this solution to deliver consistent delivery of mission critical voice and video traffic through architectural simplification and enhanced load balancing based on intelligent traffic distribution algorithms.
The ACX5096 delivers full support for Metro Ethernet services including E Line, E LAN, E Tree and E Access services through MEF CE 2.0 compliance and advanced carrier Ethernet capabilities. The platform incorporates media access control security (MACsec) and other advanced security services to protect against network vulnerabilities while enabling seamless service provisioning across multiple network segments. Weather protected locations benefit from the robust design that includes redundant fans and AC power supplies for reliable operation in challenging environments. The switch supports a rich suite of Layer 2 and Layer 3 functionality with MPLS integration, enabling service providers to monetize both Ethernet services and IP/IP-VPN offerings while supporting connectivity fault management and network management through the Junos Space platform.
The ACX5096-AC-L2 configuration provides exceptional port densities with 96 SFP ports and 8 QSFP ports redundant fans, delivering maximum interface flexibility for diverse deployment scenarios. The platform supports zero touch provisioning capabilities that dramatically reduce deployment time and complexity, enabling automated service activation and configuration management. The enhanced load balancing and traffic engineering features ensure optimal utilization of available bandwidth while supporting various interface types including 1GbE, 10GbE, and 40GbE connectivity options. This high-density design is optimized for rack space efficiency in data center and central office environments, providing exceptional value through cost reduction and simplified operations.
The platform features unified ISSU (In-Service Software Upgrade) capabilities that eliminate downtime risks associated with software upgrades and system maintenance. The ACX series supports telecommunications equipment standards including European Telecommunications Standardization Institute compliance and VCCI Class electromagnetic compatibility requirements for deployment in various regulatory environments. Enterprise branch applications benefit from the platform’s ability to support residential fiber, mobile backhaul, and aggregation deployments with full support for quality of service features including DiffServ code point marking, VLAN ID manipulation, and IP precedence classification. The rapid spanning tree protocol and Internet Group Management Protocol support enable advanced network topologies while the physical protection and electrical safety features ensure reliable operation in demanding environments.
The Juniper ACX5096-AC-L2-L3 features a robust 2U rack-mountable design optimized for high-density metro access and aggregation deployments. The platform delivers 1.44 Tbps full-duplex throughput with 96 SFP+/SFP ports supporting both 1GbE and 10GbE configurations, plus 8 QSFP ports for 40GbE uplink connectivity. The system includes redundant AC power supplies with 550W operational power consumption and redundant fans for enhanced reliability. Operating temperature range supports both standard data center and weather protected locations with full environmental compliance.
