The Juniper PTX10004-PREM3 represents the pinnacle of next generation modular routers designed for today’s space constrained facilities and data center edge deployments. Powered by Juniper’s custom Triton silicon, this ultra high density router delivers exceptional performance with 14.4 Tbps line card support and wire rate forwarding capabilities. The platform addresses the challenges of exponential data growth while providing consistent low latency and power efficiency at 0.14 watts per gigabit. The ultra compact 7U form factor makes it ideal for data center and colocation facilities where space is at a premium, while the design optimized architecture ensures maximum throughput in minimal rack space. This high performance networking silicon enables service providers to satisfy specific core network requirements while maintaining uncompromised security through inline MACsec on all ports up to 400GbE.
The PTX10004 PREM3 configuration includes six switch fabric cards that enable maximum effective switching capacity of 57.6 Tbps in a single chassis. This modular platform features hot-swappable Switch Interface Boards (SIBs) that create nonblocking communication between line cards while offering lower latency and reduced delay variation to minimize power consumption. The switch fabric utilizes purpose-built silicon specifically designed for packet transport applications, enabling the system to flexibly scale as changing traffic patterns demand increased bandwidth. The orthogonal interconnect design eliminates the need for a traditional midplane, improving airflow and enabling limitless scale for future technology migrations. This architecture supports both dual feed and single feed power configurations, making it suitable for various collocation facilities and demanding wan edge deployments.
The premium configuration includes dual routing engines with Juniper Networks advanced system management capabilities and comprehensive redundancy features designed for the most demanding environments. The platform includes two fan tray controllers and dual fan trays with redundant, variable-speed fans that maintain optimal operating temperatures while providing N+1 redundancy. Power supply options include both AC power supplies and DC power supplies with flexible configurations to support various deployment scenarios and typical power consumption requirements. The dual routing engines run Junos OS Evolved and manage all routing protocol processes, interface control, and control plane functions including chassis component monitoring and user access. This redundant architecture ensures continuous operation even during component maintenance or failures, making it ideal for internet exchange providers and metro core deployments.
The PTX10004 features four slots that can accommodate line cards with throughput ranging from 4.8 Tbps to 14.4 Tbps per slot, enabling organizations to deploy new architectures that support evolving service requirements. The platform can support up to 576 100GbE interfaces or 144 400GbE interfaces in a fully loaded configuration, providing the high capacity needed for modern packet transport applications. Each line card incorporates multiple independent packet forwarding engine slices that deliver predictable IP MPLS performance across various traffic patterns. The platform supports multirate interfaces including 10GbE, 25GbE, 40GbE, 100GbE, and 400GbE with native MACsec capabilities, ensuring that ethernet links maintain uncompromised security while delivering wire rate performance. This flexibility enables service providers to deploy feature sets that address specific core network requirements while maintaining low cost per bit operations.
The Juniper PTX10004-PREM3 features an ultra-compact 7U modular chassis design optimized for power constrained facilities and modern data center environments. The platform includes four horizontal line card slots, dual routing and control boards, six switch interface boards, and comprehensive power and cooling systems. The chassis design incorporates front-to-back airflow with internal fan systems and redundant power supply configurations supporting both AC and DC power options. The modular platforms share common components across the PTX series, ensuring operational consistency and investment protection.
