The QFX10002-60C-DC features 60 flexible QSFP28/QSFP+ ports that support 100 Gigabit Ethernet, 40 Gigabit Ethernet, or up to 192 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections through breakout cables. This exceptional port density enables data center operators to build consolidated network architectures while reducing overall infrastructure complexity. The advanced virtual output queue (VOQ) architecture eliminates head of line blocking, ensuring consistent performance even during network traffic spikes and maintaining optimal throughput across all ports simultaneously.
Built on Juniper’s custom Q5 ASICs with embedded analytics capabilities, the QFX10002-60C-DC supports comprehensive protocol suites including Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP), Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), User Datagram Protocol (UDP), and Internet Protocol Version 4/6. The switch implements Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP), Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), VLAN Spanning Tree Protocol, and Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) for enhanced network resilience. Additional protocol support includes Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) for comprehensive network automation features.
The switch incorporates Hybrid Memory Cube (HMC) technology providing 100ms per-port deep buffers that effectively absorb network traffic spikes and reduce application latency in demanding environments. This unique network forwarding functions capability ensures consistent performance during traffic bursts common in today’s data center operations. The integrated Precision Time Protocol (PTP) support enables precise network synchronization essential for financial trading, telecommunications, and other time-sensitive applications requiring microsecond-level accuracy.
Designed for networks evolving toward software-defined architectures, the QFX10002-60C-DC excels at supporting overlay networks utilizing VXLAN (Virtual Extensible LAN) technology. The platform seamlessly integrates EVPN-VXLAN configurations for both Layer 2 and Layer 3 gateway services, enabling flexible data center interconnect solutions. This capability allows organizations to deploy overlay networks that provide workload mobility and application availability across geographically distributed locations while maintaining the same platform consistency.

The QFX10002-60C-DC is powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Intel CPU with 32 GB of SDRAM, providing exceptional control plane performance for complex routing and switching operations. The system includes dual 64 GB solid-state drives for Junos OS installation and configuration storage, ensuring rapid boot times and reliable operation. The custom Q5 packet forwarding engine delivers wire-speed performance across all port configurations while supporting complete bandwidth utilization and advanced traffic engineering capabilities.
The DC variant features four redundant 1600 W AC power supplies specifically engineered for telecommunications and data center environments requiring -48VDC power distribution. The 2N redundancy architecture ensures continuous operation even during power supply failures, while hot-swappable power modules enable maintenance without service interruption. The cooling system utilizes three 80-W fan modules operating at 150 CFM at full speed, with airflow-out (port-to-FRU) design optimized for data center rack environments and temperature sensor configuration backup.
Within the QFX10000 switches family, the QFX10002-60C-DC offers the highest port density and throughput compared to the QFX10002-36Q (36 ports, 2.88 Tbps) and QFX10002-72Q (72 ports, 5.76 Tbps). While the QFX10002-72Q provides more total ports, the 60C model’s universal QSFP28 ports offer superior flexibility for 100GbE deployments. The system with 36 port configuration (QFX10002-36Q) serves smaller deployments, while the 60C model targets large-scale data centers requiring maximum throughput density in minimal rack space.
The QFX10002-60C-DC includes four 1600 W DC power supplies providing 2N redundancy for maximum reliability in critical data center environments. The DC power supplies support standard -48VDC telecommunications power distribution common in carrier-class facilities. Hot-swappable power modules enable maintenance without disrupting network operations, ensuring continuous service availability.
The switch features comprehensive network automation features including zero-touch provisioning, Python scripting capabilities, and integration with popular orchestration platforms like VMware NSX and OpenContrail. The carrier class operating system includes APIs for programmability and supports automated management through industry-standard protocols. Advanced features like EVPN-VXLAN enable seamless integration into software-defined networking architectures.
The QFX10002-60C-DC offers 60 universal QSFP28/QSFP+ ports supporting flexible 100GbE/40GbE/10GbE configurations, compared to 36 fixed QSFP+ ports on the 36Q model and 72 QSFP+ ports on the 72Q model. The 60C model provides 12 Tbps throughput versus 2.88 Tbps (36Q) and 5.76 Tbps (72Q), making it ideal for very large deployments requiring maximum performance density. Additionally, the 60C model includes enhanced memory (32GB vs 16GB) and larger SSDs (64GB vs 25GB) for superior scaling capabilities.
The virtual output queue (VOQ) architecture prevents head of line blocking by maintaining separate queues for each output port, ensuring that congestion on one port doesn’t affect traffic destined for other ports. Combined with 100ms per-port deep buffers using Hybrid Memory Cube technology, the system effectively manages network traffic spikes while maintaining consistent low latency. This design enables complete bandwidth utilization across all ports simultaneously, critical for high-throughput data center applications.
The switch provides comprehensive VXLAN support including L2 and L3 gateway functionality, enabling seamless connectivity between traditional VLANs and VXLAN overlays at any network tier. EVPN-VXLAN integration supports both centrally-routed and edge-routed bridging architectures for maximum deployment flexibility. Advanced features include multicast support, assisted replication, and integration with SDN controllers through OVSDB protocols, enabling organizations to deploy overlay networks that best suit their specific requirements while supporting current and emerging requirements.
